Hermann Maier gets a taste of winemaking

The Austrian skiing legend has created his own Cuveé in collaboration with the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery.

“A visit with consequences” is how the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery describes Hermann Maier’s visit to their winery, which took place as part of the Raiffeisen Bank’s “Success Paths” series. In the course of this, the ski star himself cuvetted a full-bodied red wine, which was bottled in August 2024. The description of the wine, which is made from the Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, reads: “Impressively dense, dark berry and full-bodied.”

“We are incredibly proud to bring out a very special wine with such a legend. A red Cuveé, as explosive and powerful as Maier was known to be on his best descents,” is Christoph Salzl’s enthusiastic statement.

The wine matured for twelve months in a small oak barrel and is available both in 0.75-liter bottles and in strictly limited 1.5-liter magnum bottles. This limit amounts to 54 bottles – one bottle for every World Cup victory by Hermann Maier. The special feature of the magnum bottles? Each one is signed by Maier. “When such a star signs the bottles with his autograph, it’s another special honor,” says Salzl.

The wine is available for 40 euros directly from the winery or in the webshop.
